Lawn Care Business Glossary
Industry terms, CRM software definitions, and technology explained for lawn care professionals.
AI & Technology
AI Assistant (Oz)
An artificial intelligence operations manager built into a CRM that can draft emails, analyze revenue trends, answer natural-language questions about business data, and take actions on behalf of the user. In GreenSpace CRM, the AI assistant is called Oz.
A/B Testing (Autopay)
An experimentation framework that tests different autopay enrollment flows to determine which version converts more customers. AI analyzes results and recommends the winning variation.
LiveKit
An open-source platform for building real-time audio and video applications. GreenSpace uses LiveKit to power its Voice AI agents, enabling natural conversational AI that answers customer phone calls 24/7.
RLS (Row-Level Security)
A database security feature that restricts data access at the row level based on the current user's context. In multi-tenant SaaS applications, RLS ensures that each company can only access its own data — preventing data leaks between tenants.
TSP (Traveling Salesman Problem)
A classic optimization problem that seeks the shortest route visiting a set of locations and returning to the start. In lawn care, TSP solvers optimize daily routes to minimize drive time between service stops, saving meaningful time per day for typical operations.
Voice AI
Artificial intelligence that conducts real-time phone conversations with customers. Unlike IVR phone trees with pre-recorded menus, Voice AI carries natural conversations — answering questions, collecting information, and scheduling callbacks. GreenSpace Voice AI is powered by LiveKit and operates 24/7.
Accounting
Chart of Accounts
An organized list of all financial accounts used in a company's general ledger, categorized into assets, liabilities, equity, revenue, and expenses. A chart of accounts is the foundation of double-entry accounting.
Double-Entry Accounting
An accounting method where every financial transaction is recorded in at least two accounts — a debit and a credit. This ensures the accounting equation (Assets = Liabilities + Equity) always balances. More accurate than single-entry bookkeeping.
General Ledger
The master record of all financial transactions for a business, organized by account. The general ledger feeds into financial statements like the balance sheet and income statement.
Billing
Autopay
A billing feature that automatically charges a customer's saved payment method when an invoice is generated. Autopay reduces collection calls and improves cash flow for lawn care companies by eliminating manual payment follow-ups.
Per-User Pricing
A pricing model where software cost increases for every user added. This model penalizes growing companies, especially lawn care businesses that add seasonal workers. Flat pricing (like GreenSpace's $99/month for unlimited users) avoids this problem.
Prepay Wallet
A customer account balance where funds are deposited in advance and automatically deducted as services are completed. Prepay wallets improve cash flow for lawn care companies and reduce payment collection efforts.
Compliance
DNC List (Do Not Call)
A registry of phone numbers that must not be contacted for marketing or sales calls. TCPA regulations require businesses to maintain and respect DNC lists. A compliant power dialer automatically checks numbers against the DNC list before dialing.
TCPA (Telephone Consumer Protection Act)
A U.S. federal law that regulates telemarketing calls, auto-dialers, and text messages. Businesses must obtain consent before calling, maintain DNC lists, respect calling hour restrictions, and provide call recording disclosures. Non-compliance can result in $500-$1,500 per-violation fines.
Operations
Condition Codes
Standardized codes used during lawn care services to record the condition of a property (e.g., dry spots, pest damage, weed pressure). Condition codes help track property health over time and communicate findings to customers.
Multi-Branch
The ability to manage multiple business locations under one account. Each branch can have its own customers, crews, routes, and pricing while the owner maintains consolidated visibility.
Route Optimization
The process of calculating the most efficient order to visit service locations, minimizing drive time and fuel costs. Advanced route optimization uses AI-powered TSP (Traveling Salesman Problem) solvers that factor in traffic, crew capacity, time windows, and service duration.
Windshield Time
The time technicians spend driving between service locations. Windshield time is unproductive (no revenue generated) and is the largest reducible cost for most lawn care companies. Route optimization can reduce windshield time by 30-50%.
Software
CRM (Customer Relationship Management)
Software that manages customer information, interactions, services, billing, and communication in one system. A lawn care CRM is specifically designed for green industry workflows like route scheduling, seasonal services, and crew management.
Power Dialer
A phone system that automatically dials the next number in a campaign list after completing a call, significantly increasing call volume compared to manual dialing. Must be TCPA-compliant with configurable calling windows and DNC list integration.
Progressive Web App (PWA)
A web application that can be installed on mobile devices and works like a native app — with offline capability, push notifications, and home screen access. No app store download required. GreenSpace CRM is a PWA that works on iOS, Android, and desktop.
